The calmest voice I heard today
was a mum. I heard her say
to a child (her’s I think-
who said to her ‘Mum! This stinks!
I do not like this not one bit!’)
she said, as if from holy writ:
‘I know you don’t like it.
Everyone knows you don’t like it.’
Nevertheless, they plodded on
and soon the whinging child was gone
and so the moral of this tale-
Every mum will always fail
but she can fail with peaceful grace
and keep the egg on her kid’s face.
