Spinning Song

How can we turn this trash into treasure?
How can we turn this straw into gold?
How can we put some bread on this table?
How can we make something to be sold?

Card away, spin away, weave away,
Night and day.

In spring time we scatter the seeds of last harvest-
In summer we watch as they patiently grow.
In autumn we gather the offerings of nature,
and now in the winter, by fire light’s glow

Card away, spin away, weave away,
Night and day.

Next spring time I’ll meet the one I will marry
Next summer I’ll wait as I patiently grow.
Next autumn I’ll bring forth new life to this family.
Next winter, the cradle will rock as I sew.

Card away, spin away, weave away,
Night and day

Make me a basket to gather the wood in.
Make me some cloth to bury my bones.
Bring me the leftovers of nature’s harvest.
Little child sit, and learn from the crones.

Card away, spin away, weave away,
Night and day.
